Our founder

Father Louis-Marie Parent, o.m.i., was born in 1910 in Québec, Canada. He joined the Oblates of Mary Immaculate in 1931 and was ordained in 1937.

​

Starting in 1938, he was a missionary in the North of Alberta.

​

In 1943, he founded, together with two Montrealers, a contemplative religious community called the Missionary Recluses.

​

In 1944, he became a priest in the Falher parish, and then in 1945,he was named the colonizer missionary of Peace River (Alberta).

​

In 1952, he founded the secular Institute of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate and in 1958 the Voluntas Dei Institute.

​

From the beginning of his priesthood he was a preacher and was also in contact with lay people, religious and priests.

​

He was also an author, wellknown by thousands of readers, and he published for twenty years a monthly brochure called <Collection Volontaires de Dieu>.

​

He has also written several books on spirituality and human relations.

​

 He died at the age of 98 years and 10 months; he entered the House of the Father on the 17th of May 2009.

​
